National Songs of Singapore
National Song 2024 - "Not Alone"
If you are visiting Singapore at this time of the year (July and August) and you wander into a shopping mall or other public areas, you may find yourself bombarded with our National Songs, like "Count On Me Singapore", "Stand Up for Singapore", "We are Singapore", etc.
The video above is the latest for 2024.
Singapore commissions songwriters to come up with a new song each year to celebrate our National Day on 9 August.
Yes, some of the songs are cheesy, and in the early years, every song had "Singapore" in it, in case it was not obvious.
Many school children were encouraged (i.e. forced) to learn to sing the song of the year when they were in school and today, they have been "Stockholm Syndrome" into being partial to that song.
If you like any of the songs, enjoy. If you find the songs irritating, I feel for you.
The more recent songs are less childish and more subtle... but not as catchy and singable.
Anyway, just an explanation...
As a consolation, if you're at the bay area on Saturday evenings, you would have been "rewarded" with glimpses of our National Day Parade rehearsals.
