Rainforest Wild! (Singapore's newest park/zoo)

Image
As mentioned in the post on "Things to do in Singapore", there is a new park in the Mandai Reserves - Rainforest Wild! From the video description: Rainforest Wild Asia opened to public on 12th March 2025, it is the newest addition to the Singapore MANDAI Reserve, joining the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise. This makes it currently the world's newest zoo, and is also Asia's first adventure-based zoological park. Do drop by if you are looking to fill your time during the March school holiday! The park concept is interesting, the 36 species of animals are housed in pretty spacious homes, with most viewpoint closer to the animals compared to conventional glass-up enclosures.

Singapore Cheaply

Image
[Here's the mandatory preamble:] "Singapore is consistently rated one of the most expensive cities in the world!" [Here's the jaded Singaporean rebuttal/explanation:] *Heavy Sigh* "This ranking of the most expensive cities in the world is by the Economic Intelligence Unit *heh heh. "Economic Intelligence" - what an oxymoron!* It was created to inform businesses about the cost of sending their staff to work in Singapore (and other countries) so that they would know how much to pay them in 'Hardship' allowance. So that they can live like US citizens, or Europeans in Singapore. Which is silly and elitist. (but can be heartbreaking). Like how much to get a Reuben Sandwich in Singapore ? [Ya lah. Ya lah. bludy nerd.]  "Anyway, tourists... oh sorry. BUDGET TRAVELLERS come to Singapore, and are THRILLED to realise that Singapore is not as expensive as they have been led to believe." [Jaded Singaporean interjects:] "By the lying Econom...

Accommodation (2023)

Image
Accommodations in Expensive Singapore may be your biggest anxiety, and largest budget item. I explained in this page : Singapore is small, and highly urbanised. There is 720 sq km of land on Singapore, and 5.6 million people (approximately), and these residents of Singapore needs a place to stay. At the same time, pre-pandemic, we attracted almost 20 million tourists to Singapore each year (and hope to do so again, post-pandemic). And we only have 70,000 hotel rooms. (In comparison, Bali attracts 1/3 the tourists, and have more than half the hotel rooms of Singapore. Correspondingly, the hotel rates there are cheaper. Not that I am recommending Bali for your travels .) But there are low-cost options. Singapore is NOT going to be as cheap as Bali, or Chiangmai, or Hanoi, but there are (relatively) low costs options. Hotels under $50 (as at 2022)
